Each April, VEX puts out a challenge that teams try to solve so they can compete. While the specifics of each game change, every challenge has specifics parts in common:
During a match, teams are divided into two alliances, one red and one blue, with two different robot teams on each. Together, these robot teams aim to get a higher score than the opposing alliance over the course of two timed match sections: Autonomous Mode & Driver Control.
The Autonomous Mode takes place for the first 15 seconds of the match, and robots can only move based on code pre-written on the robots. At the end of the 15 seconds, Judges score the field to assign the Autonomous Winner for the match to assign bonus points to that alliance. The Driver Team members can take control of their robots for the remaining minute and 45 seconds of the match which will determine winner.
